What our clients say...
A number of options were explored in order to give all our staff an alternative to self funding when we were unable to support an application. Although many staff had experience of applying to external organisations for financial support, finding the right organisation or understanding the application process remained a challenge which prevented many staff from exploring this option and therefore many development opportunities may have been lost.
On testing the Open 4 Training & Development solution, this appeared to assist in many of the challenges and simplifying the options of potential external financial support. The benefits we have identified through enabling our employees access to this system included:
- Simple access to a number of funding opportunities
- Details on how to apply
- The relevance of the funding option to the course
- Details of local, regional and national opportunities
Feedback from staff has been very positive and this has assisted us greatly in enhancing our ability to continue to support our staff development through access to a simple-to-use resource.
We have been using Open 4 Training and Development to support our staff’s continuous professional development since 2012. Employees use Idox to help supplement funding offered by the organisation. We have found the system a cost-effective and reliable source of grants. The easy-to-use system and tailored searches have allowed staff to access additional funding to support learning and we estimate this to be in the region of £30,000 within the last 2 years.

"I was so impressed with how simple it was to get the Open 4 portal up and running. Idox did everything, all that was left for me to do was get a hyperlink copied and pasted on the relevant parts of our site."
Ben Hooson, Corporate Project Officer (Economic Development), Huntingdonshire District Council
What our users say...
“I would like to thank Idox and particularly the Open 4 Training portal in helping me to secure funding for my career development. I currently look after the elderly with dementia in a local authority care home but was recently advised that the Council would be closing its care homes as part of its efficiency drive.
Knowing that I would have to look for a new job sooner rather than later (with 1,200 care workers in the region finding themselves in the same position), it was recommended that I run a search on Open 4 Training & Development to identify if there was any funding that could help me gain qualifications to move up to being a senior carer at a private care home.
I identified what seemed like a suitable funder on the database (the Graham Kirkham Foundation) and I rang to ask them for further advice. They asked a few questions about my situation before confirming they would be happy to help. I received an application form a few days later and completed it, advising that I had identified a suitable course at Doncaster College. A short time afterwards I was contacted by Doncaster College to confirm that the funding had been paid for my meds training. This was a 1-day course but the charity then confirmed that the costs of my other course (NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care*) had also been covered.
Without identifying the appropriate funding through Open 4 Training I think it’s highly likely I would still be looking for work. And I’m pleased to say that, as a result of gaining this qualification, I have now secured new employment.”
Denise Pratt, Senior Carer, Doncaster
